Taylor Swift was the only artist to sell more than 300,000 copies of a single album in Canada last year, as her 1989 romped its way to the top of the year’s charts.
With 314,000 sales, the LP was the year’s leader by some distance, according to new Nielsen data: 1989 and the Frozen soundtrack were the only two albums to top 200,000 sales in the territory in 2014.
Meanwhile, local boy Bobby Bazini’s Where I Belong was the only album from a Canadian artist to sell more than 100,000 copies.
That meant that the Top 5 best-selling albums of the year in Canada in 2014 didn’t contain a single local artist.
As reported earlier, Canada’s overall unit sales of albums were down 5% across 2014.
