If you didn’t know, London has a new Night Czar.
What’s a Night Czar? Well, it’s like a Mayor for the night-time. But it’s definitely not a Night Mayor, because that doesn’t sound quite right.
The person who’s been chosen for the role is popular American-born comedian/DJ/presenter Amy Lamé.
She’s been tasked with helping turn London back into a “thriving 24-hour city”.
Lamé takes the job against a backdrop of rising rents and closing entertainment venues – such as the legendary nightclub Fabric, which recently shut its doors after 17 years in business.
So what, exactly, does the music business need from Lamé?
A pertinent question, and one very much covered by an interesting panel recently moderated by MBW in England’s Capital – and presented by our friends at Cooking Vinyl – called: ‘The Future Of… Music In London.’
You can watch the thoughtful (and occasionally fiery) discussion below.
It features Dr Shain Shapiro (Sound Diplomacy), Feargal Sharkley (Public Policy and Creative Industries) / Consultant (Former CEO of UK Music), Dr Julia Jones (Found in Music), Stuart Galbraith (Kilimanjaro Live) and Arianna Ricciotti (British Land).
The panelists map out exactly how London can once again become a thriving melting pot of musical culture – while balancing the need for platform for tomorrow’s superstars against the agendas of profit-hungry developers.
