Sony Music UK is properly breaking a new artist.
BRIT Critics Choice winner Rag’N’Bone Man’s debut album, Human, was released on Friday (Feb 10) – and recorded just over 70,000 UK equivalent sales in its opening three days by end of Sunday (Feb 12).
To put that sales tally into context, it’s more than debut albums from the likes of Zayn (Mind of Mine) and Jack Garratt (Phase) managed to sell across the whole of 2016.
In fact, it’s more than the three-day sales of the rest of the midweek UK Top 20 album chart combined.
In addition, Human is officially the biggest ever debut from a UK artist on Apple Music. The artist is shaping up to score the largest week one ever, streams-wise, by a new UK artist album on the platform.
MBW tipped Rag’N’Bone Man for a big 2017 last year.
Sony EVP of International Operations, Mark Collen, said of the popularity of Human’s eponymous lead single: “At the heart of this is an incredible artist and an amazing song, which has proved to have resonance – and is really touching people.
“And, I think this, more than anything, has allowed us to follow a very different path.”Music Business Worldwide
