Sony Music has launched California-based label Weekday Records in partnership with Pure Noise founder Jake Round.
The label will be distributed by Sony’s Red Associated Label Group.
Round is founder of punk label Pure Noise Records, which has a distribution deal with Sony RED (North America) and PIAS (Europe).
He was previously an assistant editor at alternative music mag AMP.
Since its launch in 2009, Pure Noise has released music from Less Than Jake, The Story So Far, State Champs and Handguns.
Weekday will focus on acts outside of the punk genre.
Its first signing is Alabama alt pop four-piece band Jule Vera (pictured), who were previously signed to Pure Noise.
They released a new single titled Lifelife yesterday and their debut album will follow later this year.
“We’ll be signing and developing artists at Weekday in the same way we’ve done at Pure Noise over the last eight years but will be able to branch out a little bit genre wise, which is exciting.”

Arizona indie band Lydia are also on the Weekday roster.
Said Round: “I’m very excited and proud to announce Weekday Records, our new partnership with Sony Music.
“We’ll be signing and developing artists at Weekday in the same way we’ve done at Pure Noise over the last eight years but will be able to branch out a little bit genre wise, which is exciting.
“Getting started with great acts like Lydia and Jule Vera is a great representation of what we hope to do with the label stylistically.
“We hope Weekday can be a good home for everything from indie rock to pop and everything in between.”
