Warner Chappell Music (WCM) has appointed Delia Orjuela as its new Head of Creative, Mexican Music/Musica Mexicana.

Orjuela, known for her role in catapulting Mexican-American singer DannyLux to chart-topping success, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

Having co-led Warner Music Latina’s Mexican Music division, she is expected to use her expertise in identifying talent to further boost WCM’s presence in the Latin American market, the company said Wednesday (May 8).

In her new capacity, Orjuela will be based in Los Angeles and will report directly to Gustavo Menéndez, President of US Latin & Latin America at WCM. She will work with the publisher’s regional Mexican music writers and artists in the US and Mexico.

Delia Orjuela’s journey in the music industry traces back to her roots in Mexico City, where her career began at CNN en Español before transitioning to roles at RMM Records & Video and BMI. At RMM, she worked alongside music executive Ralph Mercado, responsible for publicity and promotion of artists such as Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz, and Tito Puente.

“[Delia Orjuela] is fiercely passionate about empowering music creators and providing them with the right tools to amplify their voices on a global scale.”

At BMI, she first served as Regional Manager in 1997 before being promoted to Vice President of the Latin department. She spent 23 years leading the department in signing and developing artists including Juanes, J Balvin, Luis Fonsi, Pitbull, Espinoza Paz, Tucanes de Tijuana, Jenni Rivera, Horacio Palencia, Ximena Sarinana, and Pepe Aguilar.

She then joined WM Latina in 2021. The company has since expanded its roster to more than 15 artists.

Commenting on her appointment, Orjuela said: “I have spent most of my career advocating and championing songwriters, and they’ve remained my true passion. Music is incredibly powerful, and I love how a great song with meaningful lyrics can impact people’s lives.”

“I’m so glad to once again be a part of the songwriting process from the beginning, helping to set up collaborations and nurture creative connections. This next step in my career brings everything full circle, and I can’t wait to hit the ground running with Gustavo and the incredible team at WCM.”

Menéndez added: “Delia and I have known each other for years, and what started as professional respect has grown into a deep and genuine friendship. She’s fiercely passionate about empowering music creators and providing them with the right tools to amplify their voices on a global scale.”

“We’ve already started to pull together exciting plans with Alejandro [Duque], and her natural instinct will drive remarkable success in one of today’s fastest-growing genres.”

WCM’s Co-Chairs, Guy Moot (CEO) and Carianne Marshall (COO), said, “Delia has supported countless songwriters and established a reputation for energizing teams and elevating music. We see huge potential to create timeless songs in the Mexican music market, and her leadership will help us continue to develop songwriters who shape culture.”

Orjuela’s appointment marks the latest across Warner Chappell Music’s global network after the appointment of Natasha Billing as Senior Vice President, Commercial and Data Insight, and the promotion of Nick Allum to Vice President, Data and Insight, in February.

In January, WCM promoted Lázaro Hernández to the position of Senior Vice President, A&R, US Latin & Latin America.
