Adele‘s 30 has been crowned the IFPI‘s winner of its Global Album All Format Chart for 2021
30 also tops the IFPI Global Album Sales Chart, as well as the inaugural IFPI Global Vinyl Album Chart.
30 is the fourth studio album from Adele, and was released on November 19, 2021.
After its release on Friday October 15, Adele’s comeback single Easy On Me became the most streamed song globally on Spotify in a single day, breaking BTS’s Spotify record for day-one plays in the process.
30 went on to reach No.1 in over 20 markets, including the US, where it became Adele’s third album to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Following its release in November 2021, 30 surpassed over 5 million physical album equivalent units in 2021 in under two months, says IFPI.
The album continues its streak by topping all three of IFPI’s Global Album Charts – the Global Album All Format Chart (introduced last year and won by 2021’s Global Recording Artist Of The Year, BTS), the Global Album Sales Chart and the first-ever Global Vinyl Album Chart.
Elsewhere in the Global Album All Format Chart, Ed Sheeran’s latest album, =, hit No.4, and Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR came in at No.2.
The Kid LAROI’s F*CK LOVE (Mix Tape) hit No.7, while Doja Cat’s Planet Her reached No.10.
ABBA’s first album in 40 years – Voyage, which sold in excess of 1m combined album units in its first week worldwide – appeared at No.8 in the Global Album All Format Chart, and No.2 in the Global Album Sales Chart.
IFPI says that the Global Album Sales Chart highlights the “continuing importance of Asia, particularly sales of physical albums”, pointing to how BTS (No.4) and SEVENTEEN (who featured twice in the chart at No.3 and No.7) featured prominently,
Japanese group Snow Man’s first studio album, Snow Mania S1, also charted at No.9.
The debut Global Vinyl Album Chart, introduced to “reflect the continued strong growth of the format”, says IFPI, completes Adele’s sweep of all three awards.
Albums from Fleetwood Mac (No.3), The Beatles (No.7), Nirvana (No.8) and Pink Floyd (No.9) chart, alongside releases from Olivia Rodrigo with SOUR (No.4) and Billie Eilish’s second album Happier Than Ever (No.5).
Adele’s triple win follows the news that The Weeknd’s single, Save Your Tears, was named the winner of IFPI’s 2021 Global Digital Single Award.
The Weeknd is the first artist to win the Global Digital Single Award two years in a row, after topping the Global Digital Single Award in 2020 with his single Blinding Lights.
