Mushroom Music Publishing has struck a deal to sub-publish fellow independent and New-York based Atlas Music Publishing for Australia and New Zealand.
Under the new partnership, Mushroom will administer works by Van Halen, Counting Crows (pictured) and John Legend, as well as songwriters including Alex Vargas, Toby Gad and Coyle Girelli.
The move sees Atlas founder and CEO Richard Stumpf back in business with Mushroom, having previously worked together while he was heading up creative at Cherry Lane.
“Reuniting with Ian, Zoe and the Mushroom team is like a return to family. These guys know the work it takes to get things done.”

“I recall a decade ago, when I ran Cherry Lane’s creative, going to one of those classic 1am SXSW showcases off the beaten path to see a new band.
“You know, the one you almost skip. Lo and behold, who was standing right next to me – the head of Mushroom Music, Ian James.
“The band – The Temper Trap! That’s a guy who gets what it takes to be successful. I’m happy to be back home!”
James added: “We are thrilled to be once again working with our friend and colleague Rich and his team at Atlas.
“As publishing companies continue to be bought and sold, it’s vital that the remaining independents unite to strengthen our position in what is a very competitive market place.”

“Personal relationships in the music industry are as important as ever and having a fond history with not only Rich, but a number of his Atlas staff, has been integral to our paths crossing again.
