The Price of Music, a new weekly podcast about “the money behind the music industry”, is launching on Wednesday January 31, 2024.
In each episode, BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and Music Ally’s Stuart Dredge will discuss “the latest stories making waves in the music business”.
The podcast will also feature conversations with people in the industry like artists, label owners, promoters and agents, and answer listeners’ questions.
Created and produced by Dap Dip, the podcast production company behind The Price of Football, The Price of Music aims to “dig into the finances behind the latest music industry news and cover everything from streaming to film syncs, publishing royalties to ticket prices”.
British radio DJ Steve Lamacq is a widely respected and influential broadcaster, having spent three decades on BBC Radio One and BBC 6 Music.
Music Ally’s Stuart Dredge has been writing about the business side of the music industry for two decades.
A former business reporter and presenter at BBC Radio 5 live, Guy Kilty founded Manchester-based podcast production company Dap Dip in 2019.
Commenting on the launch of the new podcast, Steve Lamacq, BBC 6 Music and Price of Music co-presenter, said: “I’ve always wanted to be involved with a project which helped to demystify the music industry and how its finances work, and now finally I’ve got my chance.”
“I’m hoping it’ll be, not only really revealing and interesting for music fans, but also informative for emerging artists, managers and anyone else who wants to carve out a career in the industry.”
