Dance/electronic music platform Beatport has paid out $300 million to independent dance music labels since it launched in 2004, the company reports, as it celebrates its 16th birthday.
Beatport adds that these payouts have consistently risen for the last three years and suggests that “no other platform has paid out more to independent dance labels”.
The company sold music for 74,000 independent labels last year and also saw around 8,000 labels join the platform in 2019.
The company also states that it has seen 259 million track downloads on its site since 2004.
Beatport launched Beatport LINK last year, a streaming platform for DJs, which allows users to stream any of the 9 million tracks available on the Beatport store directly to their DJ performance software.
The launch of LINK Playlists followed late last year, allowing users to add curated content from electronic/dance music artists, clubs and labels, with 420,000 unique playlists available as of 2019.
Meanwhile, Techno was Beatport’s top-selling genre in 2019, followed by Tech House, House, Deep House, and Melodic House & Techno.
“The global DJ community is going to see innovative tools and services coming from Beatport in 2020 as we continue to evolve our company.”
