BMG acquires UK production music house Altitude Music

BMG has added to its growing production music business with the acquisition of high-end UK production music house Altitude Music.

Altitude was founded in 2010 by custom TV and film composers Caspar Kedros and Scott Doran.

Its catalogue has been used in numerous high-profile TV campaigns (SpooksCSI: NY and the BBC’s The Night Manager – pictured), and major league advertisements (Ikea, Sky and Google).

As well as its own flagship label Altitude Music, the company also owns premium trailer music specialist Must Save Jane, which was founded with Anton Hiscock from Trailer Media and is also part of the BMG deal.

Must Save Jane tracks have been used in numerous films and movie trailers (Despicable Me 2, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Eddie The Eagle).

Altitude also represents several other catalogues including Score Production Music and Analog Champion, while its Shoreditch, London base houses a high spec in-house recording studio complete with resident composer, engineer and sound designer.

Altitude’s team of experts will continue to operate as usual out of their east London headquarters, but will benefit from BMG’s global operation.

BMG already has significant production music operations in the US and Continental Europe.

The Altitude Music acquisition builds on the company’s 2015 acquisition in the UK of specialist broadcast production music boutique Beds & Beats.

BMG EVP UK, Alexi Cory-Smith said: “We’re delighted to welcome Altitude’s highly successful team to BMG as well as integrating the company’s catalogue of music into our business.

“Altitude’s skilled and passionate team will now have the benefit of BMG’s reach and resources worldwide and we look forward to helping them achieve even greater success in this exciting sector of the music industry.”

Altitude’s Caspar Kedros, Director and Head of Production, said: “We are super excited to be able to begin the next stage of Altitude’s journey with BMG. We value their commitment to being a new kind of artist friendly music company. This deal means we can continue to grow, whilst keeping the focus on our composers’ creativity and talent.”Music Business Worldwide
