BMG Scandinavia has announced a partnership with Space Station 12, the new record label formed by Per Gessle, co-founder and songwriter of Roxette.
Roxette remain second only to ABBA as the most successful Swedish recording artists of all time.
Gessle’s new label will release recordings by both new and established artists.
First signings are Fanny de Aguiar, and Alex Shield, who both have releases planned for the second quarter of 2016. Head of Operations at Space Station 12 will be co-owner Marie Dimberg.
With multiplatinum success with his original band Gyllene Tider, with Roxette and as a solo artist, Per Gessle is one of the most successful artists in Swedish music history.
He came to international prominence in the late Eighties when he formed the band Roxette together with Marie Fredriksson.
With self-penned smash hits such as ‘It Must Have Been Love’, ‘Listen To Your Heart’, ‘The Look’ and ‘Joyride” (all US Number Ones), he sold more than 75m records.
At the moment Roxette are enjoying their 30th Anniversary World Tour and in June a new studio album will be released.
Per Gessle said: “My ambition with Space Station 12 is to create an environment with strong roots in the history of pop and rock. I would love it to become a label you as a listener can identify with, just like I did with Atlantic, Stiff and F-Beat Records when I grew up.
“SS12 will be a home for strong musical personalities, brilliant songwriters and curious producers. I’m really proud to have found a creative bond with BMG Scandinavia who work independently with experienced hearts and minds and put the music in focus. I love that.”
Sanken Sandqvist, Managing Director of BMG Scandinavia added: “Per Gessle is an outstanding artist in a territory known for outstanding artists. We are excited to be taking this latest step into the recordings business with Per and his new baby, Space Station 12.”
BMG Scandinavia has 15 recordings releases slated for the first three-quarters of 2016.Music Business Worldwide
