The MD of BMG in Brazil, John Telfer, has parted ways with the Bertelsmann-owned company, MBW understands.
BMG officially launched in Brazil last year with Telfer at the helm, having acquired his Basement Brazil publishing firm.
São Paolo-based Telfer founded Basement Music in 1978 as a publishing and management company working with artists including Joe Jackson, The Proclaimers, Everything But The Girl, and Television.
The experienced exec opened Basement Brazil in 2005 and subsequently became the partner of choice in Brazil for many international independent music publishers.
According to the IFPI, Brazil was the world’s eleventh biggest region for recorded music revenues in 2016, generating $230m in wholesale cash for rights-holders.
Some 49% of that figure came from digital services, with 37% from performance rights and just 14% from physical formats.Music Business Worldwide
