Cooking Vinyl has acquired a stake in Fat Cat Records.
CV will work with the label’s founders Alex Knight and Dave Cawley and its existing staff to develop the business and increase its international reach.
Brighton-based Fat Cat was launched in 1989 as a record shop and became a label in 1997.
Alongside offshoot imprints 130701 Records, Split Series, Splinter Series and Palmist Records, Fat Cat has released records by Sigur Ros, Animal Collective, Frightened Rabbit, Vashti Bunyan, Mum, Max Richter, The Twilight Sad, Hauschka, Dustin O Halleran and Nina Nastasia among others.

Its current roster includes Honeyblood, C Duncan, Ian William Craig, Resina, Oliver Alary, Big Deal, PAWS, Shopping, Tal National, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch and Dmitry Evgrafov.
Dave Cawley, co-founder of Fat Cat Records (pictured) said, “There are many advantages [to this deal]. The main one is getting the help, experience and guidance from Martin Goldschmidt and his team.
“It feels that we are now in a partnership where although we both have our own successful businesses, they really care about helping shape Fat Cat into a successful business while keeping our identity and creative ethos intact.”
