There’s a buzz building around Create Music Group.
The Hollywood-based company, founded in 2015, is best known as an artist/label ‘services’ provider which specializes in forensic digital royalty collection – especially on YouTube. It’s previously worked with the likes of Marshmello, Future, Lil Yachty, Wiz Khalifa, Trippie Redd and Post Malone.
In 2016, Create acquired a music distribution company, Label Engine, and it currently claims to monetize more than 6bn music streams every month.
Create was recently highlighted as one to watch by respected SONGS Music Publishing founder Matt Pincus, who told MBW that he regarded the company as a “leader in rights management [which has also] been doing a very good job of discovering artists on its platform and backing them”.
Today, another big move: Create has launched a fully-fledged music publishing division, to which it has signed a long-term deal with one of the most talked about Stateside artists of the year, Tekashi 6ix9ine (pictured).
You can be sure that other major industry players tried, and evidently failed, to win the deal, which is described as a “multi-million dollar” global agreement.
Tekashi 6ix9ine’s hit single FEFE, feat Nicki Minaj, recently reached No.3 on the Billboard Hot 100, while his debut mixtape, Day69, entered the Billboard charts at No.4 in Q1.
Other long-term signings to Create Music Group Publishing announced today include C4 – who has worked with artists such as Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Waka Flocka, Lil’ Wayneand Migos – as well as GooseTheGuru, who has collaborated with the likes of Trippie Redd.
“We have been extremely successful over the last three years helping some of the world’s most innovative and exciting artists monetize their content and grow their brands, something that our artists say we do better than anyone else,” said Create Music Group CEO, Jonathan Strauss.
“By launching our music publishing division, we will be extending our services to some of our most important clients to work with them in growing areas of their business. 6ix9ine has changed the music landscape – he is breaking boundaries like no one else and is without a doubt the most exciting new artist of the year.
“Create is setting a new standard for maximizing music publishing revenues for artists in a way that is innovative, completely transparent and highly efficient. All of these reasons and more is why 6ix9ine made a decision to sign a music publishing deal with Create.”
Bob Celestin, Attorney
“We are looking forward to working with him and his team for many years to come.”
Bob Celestin, attorney for 6ix9ine, said: “Jonathan and his team at Create Music Group are a next generation music and publishing company and Tekashi 6ix9ine is a next generation artist. Create is setting a new standard for maximizing music publishing revenues for artists in a way that is innovative, completely transparent and highly efficient.
“All of these reasons and more is why 6ix9ine made a decision to sign a music publishing deal with Create.”
Create has gained industry attention for its ability to discover and collect previously dormant royalties online, as well as for its monthly revenue distribution schedules.
The firm has inked deals with independent and major record label groups, in addition to independent artists.
In addition to YouTube monetization, the company provides traditional music distribution services to more than 1,500 record labels via its Label Engine division.Music Business Worldwide
