Each year the IFPI issues refreshed data about the recorded music industry via its Global Music Report.
One thing people often don’t understand about this data: IFPI calculates global commercial annual data for the business in USD at the exchange rates of the latest year (for example, in the Global Music Report 2024, its data was for 2023).
IFPI then retroactively applies this exchange rate data to previous years in order to achieve a constant currency picture.
This is why the historical IFPI data in the Global Music Report changes each year.
