Universal Music UK boss David Joseph and Rough Trade co-founder Geoff Travis are amongst 282 signatories of an open letter urging the British public to vote for their homeland to remain in the EU.
Britain will vote on June 23 whether to leave or remain in Europe, with the latest polls putting the result too close to call.
The Leave campaign is being led by the likes of Boris Johnson, former mayor of London, plus fellow MPs Michael Gove and Iain Duncan-Smith.
The Remain campaign is backed by the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, as well as Chancellor George Osborne and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Now 282 names from Britain’s creative industries have lent their support to the Remain cause.
“Britain is not just stronger in Europe, it is more imaginative and more creative.”
‘Britain stronger in Europe’ Open letter
In addition to Joseph (pictured) and Travis, other music biz signatories include artists such as Paloma Faith, Rudimental, Franz Ferdinand and Editors, as well as FAC leader Sandie Shaw and manager Jonathan Shalit OBE.
The likes of Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, the Co-Chairmen of Working Title Films; and Gail Rebuck, the Chair of Penguin Random House UK, have also backed Remain.
Signatories from across film, music, theatre, literature, dance, design, the arts, and fashion have under-signed the letter, which says:
“From the smallest gallery to the biggest blockbuster, many of us have worked on projects that would never have happened without vital EU funding or by collaborating across borders. Britain is not just stronger in Europe, it is more imaginative and more creative, and our global creative success would be severely weakened by walking away.
“From the Bard to Bowie, British creativity inspires and influences the rest of the world. We believe that being part of the EU bolsters Britain’s leading role on the world stage.
“Let’s not become an outsider shouting from the wings.”
