Next Thursday (November 21), Depeche Mode will premiere a new documentary that not only captures performances from their record-breaking Global Spirit Tour of 2017/2018, but also highlights the band’s unique relationship with their fans.
Depeche Mode: Spirits In The Forest explores the “unique and very personal” stories of six avid Depeche Mode fans from around the world.
The film is directed by long-term collaborator, photographer and film-maker Anton Corbijn.
On November 21, ahead of general release, it will be premiered at more than 4,000 screenings in over 70 countries – an event that, according to Team Depeche Mode, reflects the size of the tour and the global impact of the band’s music.
The Global Spirit Tour saw the band play to over three million fans at 115 shows all over the world.
The film captures the lives of six fans at pivotal points, and each one explains what the band and their music has meant to them – now and throughout their lives.
All six are in the audience for the final concert of the Global Spirit Tour, at Berlin’s iconic Waldbuhne venue.
Dave Gahan, lead singer of Depeche Mode, said: “I’m exceptionally proud to share this film and the powerful story it tells. It’s amazing to see the very real ways that music has impacted the life of our fans.”
Fellow founder member and the band’s main songwriter, Martin Gore, added: “In today’s world of turmoil and divisiveness, music really can be a force for good and bring people together.”
