Spotify has announced that more than five billion streams have taken place on its PlayStation app since it became the Sony gaming machine’s official worldwide music partner a year ago.
To put that into context, the entire UK market, as one example, was streaming music on audio services at a rate of around 500m plays a week last year.
Perhaps what’s even more interesting about Spotify’s relationship with PlayStation is what the gaming audience is listening to.
As you can see below, Drake is the most popular artist on the platform – both around the world and in the US market.
That’s the very same Drake who’s giving his new album to Apple Music for a week-long exclusive later this month, following a reported $19m deal with the Spotify rival signed in 2015.
