India’s largest telecommunications service provider, Bharti Airtel has confirmed that its carrier-agnostic music application – Wynk Music – has surpassed 5 million app downloads just six months of launch.
The award-winning music app has been featured by Google in its ‘Favourite Apps’ section on Google Play Store in its home country, which has boosted downloads.
Wynk’s currently offers a free version that allows users to stream music online and listen personalised internet radio. Its premium version, Wynk Plus, allows users to download unlimited music and play it offline.
Wynk Plus costs Rs 99 per month on Android and Rs 60 on iOS. As you’d expect, it’s also bundled into a tariff for Airtel’s subscribers called Wynk Freedom.
The latest app version also features support for Google Chromecast – allowing users to cast entertainment from their phone or tablet straight to their TV.
Wynk has an HD catalogue of just 1.8 million Indian and International songs, but it says ‘this is growing every day’. Its users have enjoyed exclusive music previews from Sony Music.
The film Ungli by Dharma Productions starring Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut was available first and exclusively on Wynk.
Additionally, Sony made available EDM DJ David Guetta’s new album Listen on the service.
