Gaga Music, the publisher of bands in Australia and New Zealand including The Black Keys and The National, has sold a 50% stake in its business to Aussie independent label group Inertia.
In addition being a successful publisher, Gaga Music – founded by Grant Gillies in 2007 – is also a licensing agency and rights management business with an estimated roster of 20,000 copyrights for Australia and New Zealand.
The Gaga Music team will remain in Melbourne, with Inertia directors Ashey Sellers and Colin Daniels joining the firm’s board.
Their publishing catalogue includes Animal Collective, The Black Keys (pictured), The National plus Melbourne’s Two Bright Lakes label. Inertia will offer their own artists access to Gaga’s services in the region.
“We’re thrilled to be entering into this new chapter with our good friends at Inertia,” said Gillies. “It’s a great fit, we’re all on the same page in offering songwriters and artists the best possible creative service and administration.”
Daniels, Inertia’s Managing Director, added, “I have known Grant for many years and I am a huge admirer of the artist-friendly business model he has built. Inertia is a services company and working closely with Gaga now gives us the opportunity to offer artists, managers and record labels a full deck of services.
“Gaga is one of the most proactive licensing companies in the country having spent many years building trusted relationships with the film and television industry and we look forward to working together to grow the business even further.”Music Business Worldwide
