Arts & Crafts – General Accountant (CA)

JOB TITLE: GENERAL ACCOUNTANT

Arts and Crafts is looking for a general accountant to join one of Canada’s leading independent music companies. This hybrid role, based in Toronto, is responsible for maintaining full cycle accounting and supporting the preparation of financial statements. Including accounts receivable and accounts payable functions; monthly reconciliations and closure procedures; and grant applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Receivable

  • Create and issue invoices to customers, and monitor timely collection
  • Prepare customer reconciliations
  • Communicate with customers to collect outstanding invoices

Accounts Payable

  • Log vendor invoices, employee expenses, and credit cards, and process timely payments and remittances
  • Ensure accuracy of amount, currency, and expense codes logged in the general ledger

Grants

  • Support application and closure of provincial and federal grants
  • Maintain accurate financial records throughout the year to ensure completeness and accuracy of grant information

Month End / Year End

  • Maintain full cycle accounting and ensure the timely closure of reporting periods
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
  • Prepare journal entries, create accruals, identify outstanding invoices
  • Reconcile various general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliations
  • Participate in inventory counts
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and year end audits

Ad Hoc Projects

  • Respond to financial queries from internal business units
  • Support the ongoing improvements of software and internal controls
  • Identify financial reporting and reconciliation issues. Present findings in a concise and easily comprehensible manner. Support the team in resolutions

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Passion for music
  • Post-secondary education in Business, specifically in Accounting
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience
  • Self-starter who is able to identify and solve problems
  • Detail oriented with strengths in reconciliations and time management, in order to meet various conflicting deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and NetSuite are considered assets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
