IFPI advocates on the behalf of our member record companies and works to champion and defend the recorded music industry worldwide. Our goal is to improve the environment for record labels to operate in and support the growth and evolution of a thriving music ecosystem around the world.

Our work spans a wide range of fields including: worldwide policy engagement and campaigning, extensive industry data gathering and analysis, the launching and management of music charts, music copyright protection and enforcement, development of technology and data standards and managing best-practice in public performance rights collections.

IFPI’s head office is in London, with regional hubs in Brussels, Nairobi, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Miami, and Beijing. We have national groups and affiliates in 60 countries that represent their own local member record companies.


The position

IFPI is looking to reinvigorate its approach to communications to be bolder and more proactive in how we engage a predominantly policymaker audience on the vital role of a record label and the issues impacting the music industry worldwide. To support with this, we are looking to appoint an experienced, confident and passionate communications specialist to a newly created senior role within the comms team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Driving the development and delivery of IFPI’s priority campaigns. Working closely with the Deputy Director of Comms and the wider team to help develop and deliver resources across IFPI’s global network of regional offices and national groups, supporting with local adaptation and advising on execution. Our two current campaigns are:
    • The vital role a record label plays in today’s music ecosystem
    • Creating a sustainable future for AI in music

The role will involve helping to drive momentum in these ‘always on’ campaigns whilst gauging and tracking their success and helping to evolve the work and focus as required.

Alongside these priority campaigns the right candidate will also support with the wider activities of the comms team including:

  • Delivery of major comms programmes – including the development and media launch of IFPI’s Global Music Report and regional adaptations.
  • Message and resource development – working with the comms team and other IFPI departments to develop core messaging and communications resources on emerging industry issues.
  • Record company liaison – Helping to coordinate our work with a steering group of global company comms executives.
  • Media engagement and relationship building – Contributing to the team’s ongoing media engagement programme to educate key journalists on our issues and positions whilst helping to oversee our press office function.
  • National group engagement and coordination – coordinating closely with national group directors and comms leads, discussing ongoing and emerging media issues and supporting with engagement through the delivery of key messages, Q&A and evidence points.
  • IFPI profile building – Helping to manage IFPI’s reputation and building its presence at key events and with priority stakeholders.

Position requirements
  • An outstanding senior communications professional with a deep understanding of media relations and a passion for good, clear, powerful communications.
  • An exceptional storyteller with a track record of overseeing and delivering high quality and high impact communications campaigns.
  • At least seven years relevant experience, either an in-house or agency background
  • An understanding of the global media landscape, including ability to prioritise influential publications and outlets.
  • Ability to understand, explain and summarise complex and sometimes technical subjects for non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative and tenacious team player who will understand and enjoy working in a busy and ambitious comms team and liaising across disciplines and departments with consideration for multiple audiences and stakeholders.
  • A highly organised person able to prioritise tasks and workloads in a busy working environment.
  • Knowledge of the music or creative industries will be a big advantage.
  • Prepared to travel internationally from time to time to conferences and meetings.
  • A solid undergraduate degree.
