Overview

Joining the Copyright team the Manager, Copyright will be responsible for our relationships with collection societies (including PRS For Music & AMRA) and coordinating workflows within the department to ensure our publishing roster is accurately registered and monetised at the respective sources.

The Manager, Copyright, works successfully within an international team, communicating comfortably internally and externally across a wide variety of teams with senior colleagues and other parties across the business. You own problems and generate solutions and lead implementation.

You will need the ability to remain optimistic and persistent when working to document, revise and develop existing processes across different teams. It will also be your responsibility to build and maintain relationships with local societies and publishers. As part of this you may also be required to participate in local industry-wide events and AGMs to represent Kobalt’s interest.

Supporting the Director of Copyright and additional stakeholders across different departments, you have a background or deep knowledge and understanding of music copyright, publishing and/or collection societies and are aware of current and ongoing industry issues in your territories of expertise.

You will often be required to liaise with stakeholders within the Copyright department, wider operational departments (such as our Royalties & Income Tracking) Technology, Writer & Publisher Relations as well as Finance. This will require excellent communication skills as well as a detail-driven mind-set to translate requirements into concise proposals of action.

You will need to be comfortable with working within structured set processes and give detailed instructions for tasks you own and are able to recognise tasks and projects that should be undertaken and investigated further.


WHAT DOES A COPYRIGHT MANAGER DO AT KOBALT?
  • You oversee the management of our catalogue across UK-based Collection Societies and represent Kobalt externally, in relevant committees and source meetings.
  • You partner with colleagues and leaders to develop shared insights, priorities and activities and share ideas/best practice with similar teams.
  • You provide support and updates to colleagues within Kobalt, with regards to your respective sources.
  • You seek opportunities to improve our processes, collaborate with colleagues across various departments to implement new processes, and project-manage areas of development from concept to completion.
  • You maintain and build fruitful relationships with contacts at external publishers, societies and sub-publishers and work with them to resolve problematic developments and situations.
  • You proactively keep up-to-date with industry initiatives, news and updates, particularly across your respective territories of responsibility.

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • You have relevant industry experience and a deep understanding of music publishing, licensing, copyright & royalty processes.
  • You know rules and regulations related to UK Collection Societies & other relevant UK Music Industry organisations.
  • Experience of attending and participating in industry related working groups and committees is desirable.
  • You have a strong understanding of current industry affairs and are able to analyse data to quantify the impact for Kobalt.
  • You have experience communicating to a wide-ranging audience of varying seniority, skill, and knowledge.
  • You have strong organisation & prioritisation skills familiar with setting smart goals in a dynamic environment as well as thinking of improvements to existing tools and processes.
  • You are comfortable using software such as Monday.com and other emerging technologies as well as analysing and interpreting data to make informed business decisions.
