Position Summary

The Director, Catalogue Marketing and Development will be responsible for the marketing and development of our catalogue repertoire globally. Their core responsibilities will include developing (digital) catalogue products, marketing catalogue repertoire, creating and consulting on catalogue marketing strategy with frontline project managers, commerce team and digital marketing managers. And, consultation with A&R for catalogue opportunities – at a global level – on potential catalogue licences / buy-outs.

Catalogue at Nettwerk is defined as:

  • all dormant / inactive artist repertoire (legacy catalogue, “bucket 2”, “active licence”, “acquired”); and,
  • repertoire from previous option periods of current on roster / active artists (shallow catalogue)

In this role you will
  • Ideate, create and drive new catalogue repertoire based projects and products; based on momentum (anniversary, viral, touring, etc.).
  • Be the catalogue repertoire point person internally and externally (inclusive of non-community aligned repertoire on roster, such as Justin Time Records repertoire).
  • Build your network and A&R skills which would include; advise A&R on artist / label catalogues for us to acquire / licence using the team’s and your existing network of relationships to explore catalogue roster growth.
  • Work with the EVP Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer on:
    • Creating high level strategy for long term catalogue development
    • Creating processes in sales and marketing that encourage and drive shallow catalogue development for on roster / active artists in cadence

The ideal candidate would be eager to become an authority in the history of the roster. This would include incorporating everything from the artist as a brand, their past releases, and social media presence. You will know your roster – and their audience – inside out.

The role is set up to be cross-functional, cross-community, and involves collaboration with external stakeholders including artists and managers and internal stakeholders including our executive staff, Marketing, Publicity, Sales, Analytics, Production, and A&R departments.


Role Responsibilities

Catalogue Marketing & Management

  • Lead and manage relationships with external catalogue stakeholders; both on and off roster.
  • Identify viral moments and build campaigns that capitalise quickly on those opportunities
  • Identify and implement marketing opportunities for new releases & relevant re-issues, including landmark anniversaries
  • Create and maintain a database of anniversaries, milestone events, and other timeline-centric catalogue marketing drivers.
  • Work with frontline marketing, digital marketing and sales teams alongside artist management to create tailor-made digital and physical catalogue marketing activations and tactics for our active roster.
  • Develop strategies for “non-community” catalogue assets (Justin Time Records, other non-community aligned catalogue recordings)
  • Work with community MDs and other community stakeholders to ideate and drive community aligned catalogue campaigns.
  • Implement, organise, and execute creative marketing including the management of catalogue project budgets.
  • Organise, set up, and lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders for key catalogue releases including managing follow-up/action items.
  • Create and deliver regular updates to all internal and external stakeholders, highlighting campaign performance and growth opportunities that align with strategic goals
  • Work with the analytics team to run post-mortem analysis on catalogue marketing initiatives to evaluate successes and failures with a goal to continue to refine standards to apply moving forward.
  • Collaborate with physical sales manager on creation of releases from conception to market
  • Work with the production and distribution teams to create label copies, mastering, commissioning sleeve notes, and producing sales notes.

Catalogue development / A&R:

  • Review incoming “Schedule A’s” of existing releases from new artist signings:.
    • Identify opportunities for catalogue marketing on these titles and ensure marketing team leads are aware of the opportunities in order to build them into marketing plans.
  • Consult and provide strategic guidance to the A&R team to help them quantify and qualify opportunities for prospective new artist signings (with potential catalogue) and full catalogue copyright acquisition opportunities.
  • Develop new catalogue products based on catalogue repertoire, in collaboration with A&R, marketing, sales and production.
    • I.e. Anniversary products, compilations, vinyl reissues, box sets, catalogue repertoire playlists, etc.

People management:

  • Line manager for the ‘Manager, global physical sales’ day-to-day
  • Be a source of knowledge to the wider marketing team, with an emphasis on how to identify digital catalogue opportunities and how to lead / drive marketing on them.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Catalogue Marketing at a label
  • Experience working with Artists & Songwriters
  • Extensive relationships within the music industry
  • Creative marketing experience
  • Knowledge physical product market place globally
  • Project management; creating and executing marketing initiatives
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of utilising Microsoft tools and Google Suite

The pay range for this role is:

75,000 – 90,000 CAD per year (Vancouver)

50,000 – 65,000 GBP per year (London)

45,000 – 60,000 EUR per year (Hamburg)
