Sony‘s RCA Records has named John Fleckenstein as Executive Vice President at its US HQ in New York.
Fleckenstein will oversee the Marketing, Digital Marketing and Video Production departments at RCA Records, as well as be the label’s Senior Executive responsible for partnering with the centralized functions of Creative, Sales and International staff assigned to RCA projects. He will report to Tom Corson, President and COO, RCA Records.
Prior to his move to RCA, Fleckenstein held the role of Executive Vice President, International Marketing for Sony Music.
Working across Columbia, Epic and RCA Records, he oversaw the recorded music careers of all of Sony Music’s US-signed artists abroad.
Leading a team based in both New York and London, he orchestrated some of the industry’s most innovative international campaigns by worldwide superstars such as Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, P!nk, Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk, Foo Fighters and Pharrell, among others.
His team has also been responsible for establishing numerous new artists internationally such as Pentatonix, Meghan Trainor and Foster The People.
Fleckenstein began his career as a College Radio Representative for Ruffhouse Records in Philadelphia. Upon graduating university, he began at Arista Records in 1998 quickly rising to the role of Associate Director in the label’s worldwide marketing group. During his time at Arista, he managed successful campaigns for Whitney Houston, TLC and the multi-Grammy Award winning Santana album, Supernatural, which went on to sell over 24 million copies globally.
In 2001, he moved to Sydney, Australia to run the Marketing & Promotion for BMG‘s Asia-Pacific Region. Under Fleckenstein’s leadership, his team achieved a number of major breakthroughs in the region such as Avril Lavigne’s debut album which went on to sell nearly 2 million albums in Japan alone. In 2003, he returned to the US to establish BMG’s Global Marketing team out of NY where he helped redesign the company’s worldwide marketing organization.
In 2005 he was appointed SVP, International for Jive Records spearheading many successful campaigns for artists like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, Tool and others. In 2007, his role expanded as he also took over the international department of RCA Records, rising to Executive Vice President, International for the RCA Label Group.
