Mental health charity Music Support appoints Eric Mtungwazi as Managing Director

Music Support, a specialist addictions and mental health charity for the UK music industry, has announced the appointment of experienced charity professional Eric Mtungwazi to the role of Managing Director.

Mtungwazi will be responsible for managing all aspects of the charity’s core services, staff, volunteers and day-to-day business activities, working closely with the trustees to achieve the strategy and long-term vision of the charity.

Music Support is the charity partner for the UK-focused A&R Awards in association with Abbey Road Studios, which are presented by MBW in London on Tuesday, November 6.

An experienced senior executive with expertise in the not-for-profit and public sectors Mtungwazi joins Music Support from City Year UK, a youth social action and education charity, where he was Programme Director. Prior to that he spent five years working for Back-Up, a leading charity supporting children and adults affected by spinal cord injury. A former semi-professional footballer, he has also toured as a singer/songwriter both in the UK and overseas.

Music Support is a registered charity providing help and support for anyone in the music industry suffering from addiction and/or mental health issues. Founded and run by individuals from the music industry with personal experience of these issues, Music Support has evolved into a 24/7 helpline offering peer support, Safe Tents at UK Festivals and a psychiatric assessment and signposting service, with accredited and vetted professionals in the fields of addiction and mental health. They also offer a discreet crisis management service.

Music Support co-founder Samantha Parker has also announced that she is leaving her formal position at the organisation to launch a new venture, Parker Consulting , which aims to provide specialist mental health and wellbeing expertise and advice to  organisations and individuals operating in the music and entertainment sectors.
