British independent publisher Minder Music has settled a copyright infringement action against Ariana Grande and others.
The action was commenced in relation to the alleged infringement by Grande of Minder’s composition ‘Troglodyte’, originally recorded by The Jimmy Castor Bunch.
The action alleged that Grande interpolated elements of “Troglodyte” into her recording “The Way”.
“The Way” was No. 1 single in the US in 2013 and included on her platinum album “Yours Truly”.
Details of the settlement are confidential, but Minder’s MD John Fogarty said: “We have arrived at an amicable solution which was to everybody’s satisfaction”.
The work “Troglodyte” has been sampled by many artists including Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Netsky and UK DJ/ Producer Julio Bashmore amongst others.Music Business Worldwide
