Republic Records’ 2024 is off to a flying start.
The Universal Music Group-owned frontline label has scored a record-breaking week in the US on the Billboard 200.
Led by brothers Monte and Avery Lipman (who founded the label in 1995 as a subsidiary of MCA’s Geffen Records), Republic had nine of the Top 11 albums on the Billboard Top 200 (for the week dated January 20, 2024).
Republic-affiliated acts also dominated the Top 5 on the chart, led by Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at No.1.
At No.2 on the chart was Drake’s For All the Dogs followed by Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in No.3.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Republic acts Nicki Minaj with Pink Friday 2 at No.4 and Noah Kahn with Stick Season at No.5, respectively.
Republic claims to be the first label to secure eight out of the Top 10 albums on the Billboard Top 200 (and the only label ever to do so).
The label just achieved this feat for a second week in a row, after securing eight of the Top 10 albums last week (dated January 13).
Republic is also the first label to secure the Top 5 or Top 6 albums on the Billboard 200, with the latest chart results marking its third time doing so in the past month. The first time was for the chart week dated December 9.
