Daniel Lieberberg is a veteran European label executive and President, Continental Europe and Africa, Sony Music Entertainment.
Lieberberg joined the major label in 2018.
Daniel Lieberberg: career beginnings
Daniel Lieberberg started out in the live music industry. The son of renowned concert promoter Marek Lieberberg, he worked as a booker and talent buyer for Marek Lieberberg Konzertagentur, Germany’s leading concert promoter, working with artists like the Fugees, Weezer, Alanis Morissette, Faithless and Linkin Park and booking Germany’s biggest festivals, Rock am Ring/Rock im Park.
In 2001, he joined Universal Music Germany, becoming head of the Vertigo label in 2008, and was appointed to the Universal Music Germany Management Board in 2011. From 2014, he oversaw the company’s domestic business in Berlin, including the Vertigo/Capitol & Polydor/Island labels.
Under Lieberberg’s leadership, numerous local and international artists were signed directly to the German company, including Lana Del Rey, Volbeat, Unheilig, Andreas Bourani, and Felix Jaehn. Lieberberg held a number of leadership roles over the course of his career at Universal.
Daniel Lieberberg: from universal to sony
After working at Universal for 16 years, in October 2017 Daniel Lieberberg left the label during a restructuring.
At the beginning of 2018, Lieberberg was named President, Continental Europe and Africa, Sony Music Entertainment, overseeing Sony Music’s operations across the two regions, with the exception of Spain and Portugal.
Based in Berlin, he reports directly to Sony Music CEO Rob Stringer and is responsible for breaking artists and driving strategic business initiatives across the territories within these regions.Music Business Worldwide
