Austria-born Schubert Music Europe is launching 10 new independent record labels in partnership with The Orchard as part of a new global structure.
Schubert is the holding company for all music publishers of the Schubert Music Publishing group as well as several other music companies. It currently runs 13 offices covering 29 territories worldwide.
In addition, Thomas Thyssen, who joined Schubert Music from Universal Music in the Summer of 2018, has been promoted to Managing Director of Schubert Music Agency GmbH, based in Germany, and Head of Recorded Music.
Thyssen, who worked for many years as a Senior PR Manager and later also as a Product Manager for Polydor/Island and as A&R Consultant for Deutsche Grammophon, takes over the management of the new label structure and reports directly to Schubert Music CEO Andreas Schubert.
The new structure so far includes 10 record labels that each specialize in specific genres, from Alternative to Pop, Dance and Post-Punk to Latin.
The label heads include long-standing industry veterans such as Daryl Bamonte (Schubert Music UK, London), Bill Murphy (Schubert Music US, Los Angeles), Michael Pagnotta (Schubert Music US, New York), Eric Burton (General Manager Hardbeat Promotion + Celsius Management, Hamburg), Sebastián Ruiz-Tagle (Schubert Music, A&R Manager Spain + Latin America) and Markus Schmidt (Pump It Suzi, Labelhead, Frankfurt am Main).
Also included in the new structure are already established label brands such as Unique Records from Duesseldorf, with a focus on Psychedelic and Garage, run by Ina Schulz (Schubert Music Germany), as well as Bruit Blanc from Paris – managed by Matthieu Chabaud (Schubert Music France).
First signings and a detailed overview of the label structure will be announced at a later date.
“It has always been our aim to offer the artists associated with us as comprehensive a service as possible.”
Andreas Schubert, Schubert Music
Andreas Schubert, Schubert Music, CEO, said: “It has always been our aim to offer the artists associated with us as comprehensive a service as possible.
“Self-releases have sometimes been included, but now we have decided to completely re-organize the label area.
“With central management under Thomas Thyssen, who has headed our Berlin office since 2018, and decentralized, clearly specialized labels, we want to set new impulses and in combination with our other services, such as publishing, management and booking, be an attractive label alternative for artists from various genres. We found the perfect partner in The Orchard.
“Manlio not only understood and supported our ideas from the first moment, his team was also able to demonstrate the benefits of working together very clearly.”
“Andreas and Thomas have a great and ambitious vision and we look forward to being there.”
Manlio Celotti, The Orchard
Manlio Celotti, The Orchard, Managing Director – GSA, Northern & Eastern Europe & Russia, added: “We are proud and excited to work with the Schubert Music Group!
“The team is diverse, competent and, with its international structure, a perfect and predestined partner for The Orchard. Andreas and Thomas have a great and ambitious vision and we look forward to being there!”
“After extremely intensive months of preparatory work, I am now really looking forward to working with old and new colleagues in a new, exciting structure for us all.”
