Sony Music has launched ‘mature’ music imprint Masterworks in Australia.
The label will be headed up in the region by Sony Music Australia Senior A&R Director Robert Rigby (pictured right, above).
Masterworks has a 90-year history internationally that began in 1927 as Columbia Masterworks.
Its debut release in Australia is a 24-track album of poetry and music that’s dedicated to the soldiers of World War One, titled ‘Remembrance’.
Denis Handlin, AM Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia and New Zealand and President Asia (pictured left), said: “At Sony Music Australia, we strive to be market leaders in all genres of music.
“The launch of Masterworks as a domestic A&R label is part of our strategic plan to deliver more quality projects suitable for the discerning consumers in the adult contemporary, crossover and soundtrack music music market.”

Remembrance has been released in the lead-up to Australia’s national day of remembrance, Anzac Day, on April 25.
The album features over sixty minutes of songs and poetry about the war and diggers as well as new songs.
It is anchored by poetry read by Alan Jones AO and the recording debut of 27 year old Melbourne baritone Nathan Lay.
Winner of the 2016 Australian International Opera Award Scholarship, Lay has performed with Opera Australia, Melbourne Opera, Victorian Opera and more.
The album also features a brand-new track from Russell Morris titled ‘White Feather’, the iTunes proceeds of which will be donated to charity Soldier On.
New recordings from James Morrison, Damien Leith, Lee Kernaghan, Col Buchanan and Sara Storer are also included.Music Business Worldwide
