Some believe NFTs have the potential to be a multi-billion dollar great cultural disruptor. Others claim NFTs are scammer friendly fool’s gold.
Wherever the truth lies, the world of NFTs has attracted a true cross section of the music industry, from Timbaland and Quincy Jones to Cypress Hill.
As the world of NFTs becomes more unpredictable – a virtual outlet for ballet dancers and Budweiser alike – a new player has entered the game; pop culture phenomenon, Baby Shark.
SmartStudy, the entertainment company behind Korean children’s brand Pinkfong, and creator of Baby Shark, has teamed up with its global music partner Sony Music Entertainment/Relentless Records to launch the first Baby Shark NFT collection.
It’s now live for viewing on MakersPlace, the NFT platform backed by Eminem, Paul Rosenberg and Sony Music.
Baby Shark: Collection No.1 will be available for purchase on December 2, 2021 at 3:30 pm PT.
A Baby Shark NFT collection seems an inevitable move, given how the song is currently the world’s most viewed video in YouTube history, with upwards of 9.7bn views at the time of writing.
The song is also certified RIAA Diamond (11x Platinum), and spent a 20-week streak on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Sony Music Publishing signed a deal with SmartStudy last year to publish its entire catalog of children’s songs, including Baby Shark.
The Baby Shark six-piece collection includes one unique piece and five limited edition pieces, featuring Baby Shark and his family in loopable animations.
Each piece is accompanied by audio that references the song and its hook.
Pinkfong says its aim with the collection was to “create distinct original artworks that pushed the boundaries of the brand, providing a captivating experience for digital art collectors.”
“As a sensation born on the internet, it is a natural progression for Baby Shark to embrace NFTs.”
