PlayStation Music, which sees Spotify fully integrated on all of Sony‘s PS3 and PS4 consoles, has gone live in 41 countries today.
The launch allows background listening on PS4, meaning users can soundtrack their gaming sessions by playing Spotify concurrently.
“Music has always been a big part of gaming,” says Gustav Söderström, Chief Product Officer at Spotify.
“I remember playing computer games like Quake and Counter-Strike with my favourite tunes on in the background – taking the experience to a whole new level.
“With today’s launch, we’re bringing back that magic of gaming with music – all in a beautifully designed and smooth experience that looks great on the big screen.”
“PlayStation Network is the premier destination for digital entertainment and we’re excited that millions of users around the world can now enjoy the most compelling music service on their PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles,” said John Kodera, President, Sony Network Entertainment International.
“With Spotify as the foundation of PlayStation Music, we’ll continue to evolve the service to deliver the best entertainment experience that gamers have come to expect from PlayStation Network.”
Spotify on PlayStation Music will also become available on Xperia smartphones and tablets and eventually reach all 58 markets in which the streaming service is available.
The service replaces Sony’s own Music Unlimited service on PlayStation.
The platform, which was powered by Omnifone, was available in 19 territories before being switched off on Sunday (March 29).Music Business Worldwide
