Sunny Chang has been appointed as Universal Music‘s new Chairman and CEO for Greater China.
Previously Managing Director, Greater China, in his new role, Chang will oversee all of UMG’s Greater China operations including Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Chang is a highly experienced music executive with an extensive business and creative track record in the music industry as well as strong relationships with leading artists built up in his 33 years with Universal Music.
He has been Managing Director of Universal Music Greater China since April 2008 where he has been responsible for operations in the Mandarin-language dominated markets of China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Prior to this Chang spent eight years as Managing Director of Universal Music Taiwan.
He is an active member of the region’s music community and currently holds a number of senior roles in Taiwanese music organisations including Chairman of digital music joint venture Omusic and Vice Chairman of music industry association RIT and collecting society ARCO (where he was Chairman from 2005-2009).
Chang has enjoyed success with domestic artists including Chinese superstars Jacky Cheung and Karen Mok as well as Hong Kong’s Eason Chan and American-born Mandopop singer Wilber Pan. Chang and his team have also been closely involved with international stars including Taylor Swift, Mumford and Sons, Lady GaGa, Of Monsters and Men, Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna and Andre Rieu.
