Universal Music-signed German superstar artist Helene Fischer has scored the country’s top-selling album of the year, for the fifth time in six years.
Fischer’s self-titled eighth studio album was originally released in 2017; it’s won Germany’s bestseller title for the second consecutive year.
According to GfK Entertainment, the provider of the official German sales charts, the album sold more than 300,000 units in its first week of release.
In August 2017, MBW spoke to Frank Briegmann, President & CEO, Universal Music Central Europe and Deutsche Grammophon (pictured right) about the success of ‘Helene Fischer’. Now, over a year later, the LP continues to smash records in the territory.
So far, ‘Helene Fischer’ has spent 82 weeks in the German charts, 54 of them in the Top 10, reaching No.1 four times.
In Austria (Ö3 Austria Top 40) and Switzerland (Official Swiss Charts) the album spent more than 70 weeks in the charts, including several weeks at No.1.
It was Germany’s most successful album launch in 15 years, surpassing the singer’s own personal record with her album Farbenspiel, which is also the most downloaded album ever by a German female artist.
Fischer has sold over 15 million units to date and has received 112 platinum and 30 gold awards.
Her single Atemlos is Germany’s most downloaded song of all time.
Elsewhere in Germany’s end of year charts, the No.2 and No.3 best-selling albums in 2018 were also released by Universal-signed artists.
Palmen aus Plastik 2 by Bonez MC & RAF Camora and Wolke 7 by Gzuz are at No.2 and No.3 respectively.
