Tim Kelly has been named as the new Managing Director of Inertia Music, part of Australian music and entertainment services company The Inertia Group.
Kelly, who will assume the role from April 27, is the former general manager of marketing for Asia-Pacific at Sony Music. He left the major in February.
The exec will be based in Sydney, directing Inertia’s marketing, publicity, sales and distribution teams.
He reports The Inertia Group chief executive Colin Daniels, who was promoted to CEO earlier this month.
“I am very pleased to have Tim Kelly join Inertia Music’s management team,” said Daniels. “Tim has an impressive history as a music executive and, most importantly to us, he has a love of independent music.”
Added Kelly: “It’s great to be joining Ashley, Colin and the team at Inertia and I look forward to working with their exciting roster of artists and labels.”
Kelly has more than two decades of experience in the industry. In addition to his time at Sony, he was the co-founder of British indie label One Little Indian.
He has also worked as head of international at Rough Trade and managing director of Pinnacle Labels (UK), as well as spending a lengthy stint as the general manager of marketing at Universal Music Group.Music Business Worldwide
