TuneCore, a Believe-owned independent platform for self-releasing artists, has expanded its Splits program announced earlier this year.
The new Splits: Priority Payouts feature will allow artists to prioritize the order in which collaborators are paid.
It grants creators the ability to allocate and distribute revenues for each track according to their preferences.
Through the Splits program, self-releasing artists can now designate a specific sum for a collaborator, guaranteeing full payment before percentage-based splits are disbursed to other contributors, TuneCore said in a press release last week (September 19).
“By providing artists with tools to automate the financial tasks associated with releasing music, we aim to help foster a vibrant independent creator community that fuels collaboration and experimentation while guaranteeing fair compensation for collaborators.”

TuneCore says that this capability not only allows self-releasing artists to recover recording costs ahead of collaborating, but also provides artists a mechanism to negotiate with producers.
“As part of TuneCore’s ongoing efforts to make artists’ lives easier, we’re thrilled to introduce Splits: Priority Payouts and offer creators even more ways to customize and automate their revenue splits,” said TuneCore CEO Andreea Gleeson.

Priority Payouts are accessible to artists enrolled in a paid UNLIMITED plan through TuneCore’s Splits offering. Those using TuneCore’s free New Artist plan can access splits at an annual fee of $7.99 via the Splits Collaborator add-on.
Back in December, TuneCore said it had paid out $3 billion in royalties to artists since the company was founded in 2006.
The Splits program marks TuneCore’s latest offering to self-releasing artists after overhauling its pricing structure for indie artists last year to offer unlimited music distribution for a single annual fee.
TuneCore also launched a service for artists to distribute music to social platforms like TikTok and Instagram nearly two years ago. In March 2022, TuneCore became the distribution partner for TikTok’s SoundOn music distribution service.
That came a year after TuneCore partnered with YouTube to provide music for its TikTok challenger, Shorts.
Headquartered in Brooklyn, NY, TuneCore also operates offices in Los Angeles and Nashville, with global presence across five continents.
