Warner Music Group has been making a lot of moves in the Web3 space over the past 12 months.
For example, just recently, the major announced a partnership with prominent NFT marketplace OpenSea, which WMG said will provide a platform for “select WMG artists to build and extend their fan communities in Web3”.
Now, WMG is recruiting for an experienced executive to lead its metaverse strategy.
The company is hiring for a Senior Director, Metaverse Development, to join its New Business & Ventures team in New York.
According to a job ad for the role, this team “is responsible for developing strategic initiatives and executing partnerships, content license deals, digital experience development, and investments to grow WMG’s distribution network and revenue beyond core music streaming by engaging music fans in scaled, culturally relevant digital platforms and communities through social and gaming use cases as well as immersive experiences”.
WMG says that this individual will be responsible for leading its metaverse strategy, “including the development, co-funding, and project management of music entertainment experiences in metaverse and gaming“.
The news of this metaverse and gaming-centric hire follows WMG’s recent partnerships in the broader space.
In January, WMG struck a strategic partnership with virtual gaming world The Sandbox, as well as a partnership with gaming developer Splinterlands in February.
WMG appears to be looking for an exec with extensive gaming experience for the role, noting in the ad that the ideal candidate will have “held a senior level position at a games developer or studio and [will] understand building out marketing and audience strategies”.
According to the job spec, originally published in September, and again on LinkedIn on October 5, as noted by CoinDesk, they will also need to have a “mature understanding of content licensing, and the global digital media landscape” and specifically “of music licensing and content development agreements”.
They will also be required to “partner closely with design and development studios to create, plan, and execute metaverse and gaming project roadmaps, building interactive experiences for users and music fans and iterating over design and game-loop concepts”.
This person will also need to “develop go-to-market (GTM) strategies and marketing plans for metaverse games and metaverse brands”.
Elsewhere in the ad, WMG explains that its New Business & Ventures team’s “global mandate places it in the intersection of the rapidly evolving global digital media and consumer technology landscape, and as such, the team is charged with experimenting with emerging technologies and overseeing WMG’s relationships and initiatives within the startup ecosystem”.
WMG also hiring for a New York-based Director, Project Management with various Web3-related responsibilities.
Based in New York, Los Angeles or London, WMG says that this person is “responsible for executing WMG’s development, co-funding and project management of music entertainment experiences in Web3, metaverse and gaming and virtual goods partnerships and strategies”.Music Business Worldwide
