Saban Music Group (SMG), the $500 million-backed company launched last year by multi-billionaire media mogul Haim Saban, has revealed its newest project, entitled KYEN?ES?.
Los Angeles-based Saban is the creator of cult ’90s TV series Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. He’s also the head of investment house, Saban Capital Group.
Derived from the Spanish phrase ‘Quien es?’ SMG explains that the KYEN?ES? concept is based around the songs, sounds, and culture that comprise “the experience” of music.
The first project under the KYEN?ES? banner is EL CARNAVAL DE CELIA: A TRIBUTE, which draws inspiration from iconic Latin singer, La Reina de la Salsa (the queen of salsa), Celia Cruz.
Three of her hit songs will be featured, including La Vida Es Un Carnaval, La Negra Tiene Tumbao, and Rie y Llora.
Haim Saban tells MBW that KYEN?ES? “will stay true to spotlighting iconic musical works through reimagination and reinterpretation”.
“I am thrilled to introduce our KYEN?ES? concept. We are pioneering something new, that is fresh and exciting.”

In an interview with MBW last year, Saban said that “what Sir Lucian [Grainge] has built at Universal Music Group is nothing short of remarkable, and ground-breaking” and in January we discovered that SMG had inked a global distribution and marketing deal with UMG.
Grainge stated in turn that their partnership will deliver “groundbreaking new artists and music to fans around the globe”.
In June, we also learnt that the company had signed an exclusive global administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG).
SMG operates across recorded music, publishing, touring, management and acquisitions.
The company’s global artist roster includes Static & Ben El (Israel), Mergui (Israel), Marie Monti (France), Chesca (Puerto Rico), and Reykon (Colombia), to name a few.
Speaking to MBW, Haim Saban said: “I am thrilled to introduce our KYEN?ES? concept. We are pioneering something new, that is fresh and exciting.
“With Celia Cruz being the first artist we honor in our concept, it is with great pleasure that we celebrate her life’s work on the anniversary of her passing, re-imagined as a performance that will captivate audiences worldwide.
