Amazon Music has hired music industry veteran Adam Block in the newly-created position of Global Head of Music Catalog.
Reporting to Ryan Redington, Director of Amazon Music, Block will drive the catalog music strategy for Amazon Music, while continuing to build partnerships with labels and artists to – in the words of the company – “meaningfully expand and enhance their legacies in the streaming era”.
He will be based in the company’s New York office.
Block joins Amazon Music following a 26-year career at Sony Music Entertainment where he served various roles, including his most recent position as President, Legacy Recordings.
As President of Legacy, Block established a global strategy for the management and marketing of Sony’s vast catalog of audio and visual assets, while building trusted relationships with artists, managers, and estates.
While at Sony Music, Block also also orchestrated award-winning digital content and campaigns for iconic recording artists; oversaw the creation of an online community celebrating classic R&B and Hip Hop (“Certified”); and co-produced award-winning projects for film and television.
His previous Legacy Recordings positions included Executive Vice President, General Manager, Senior Vice President, General Manager.
He began his career at EMI Music/EMI Records in the press and marketing departments.
Block currently serves as a Co-Chair for the Asbury Park Music in Film Festival; and is a founding partner of the Los Angeles-based music community, Jazz Is Dead.Music Business Worldwide
