US-based Independent music publisher and rights manager, The Bicycle Music Company, has promoted Jake Wisely to Chief Executive Officer.
Formerly Bicycle co-president, Wisely will now oversee all music publishing, licensing and rights management for the firm and sister company Concord Music Group, reporting to group CEO, Scott Pascucci.
The combined Bicycle/Concord portfolio includes more than 9,000 active albums and over 60,000 compositions from writers including Paul McCartney, John Coltrane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ray Charles, Robert Johnson, Pete Seeger, Marvin Hamlisch, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Isaac Hayes, Nine Inch Nails, Otis Redding, Little Richard and Billie Holiday to name a few.
Wisely founded the independent record label Red Decibel in 1990, which led to production agreements with Warner Bros. Records and Sony Music. He soon joined ASCAP as Director of Membership managing the Midwest office in Chicago, and went on to work in the west coast creative departments of both EMI Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing. He also served as Director of Artists, Labels and Soundtracks at eMusic.com.
Under the exec’s direction, Bicycle has amassed publishing assets including classic compositions such as “Always On My Mind,” “Bust A Move,” “Cross Road Blues,” “Eye Of The Tiger,” “Guantanamera,” “Lady Sings The Blues,” “Let Your Love Flow,” “Man In The Mirror,” “Sister Christian,” “Slow Ride,” “Stand By Your Man,” “Time After Time,” and the songs from A Chorus Line.
The Association of Independent Music Publishers named the Bicycle Music Company Independent Publisher of the Year in 2013.
