Big Deal Music Group has signed a worldwide admin deal to represent the publishing catalog and masters of Southern soul independent label, Sounds of Memphis/XL Records.
The agreement is long-term and includes music by artists such as The Minits, The Ovations, Barbara & The Browns and Lou Williams.
Established in 1964 by Gene Lucchesi, XL’s initial breakout hit was Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs’ Wooly Bully, which sold millions of copies.
Alongside those names mentioned above, Sounds of Memphis/XL was a starting place for successful songwriters and producers like Allen Reynolds, Jim Cotton, Chips Moman, Dickey Lee, George Jackson and Bob McDill.
The company’s in-house producer, writer and A&R man, Dan Greer produced and wrote songs for many of the company’s biggest artists.
Sounds of Memphis/XL Records is now run by Gene’s daughter, Linda Lucchesi.
