Universal Music Group‘s distribution/services arm Caroline has partnered with Chicago rapper Joey Purp ahead of the release of his debut album.
The company will jointly release QUARTERTHING with Purp’s label, Joey Purp LLC, on September 7.
It will be the rapper’s first release since his lauded iiiDrops mixtape, which, self-released in 2016, was featured on best new albums/music lists by Rolling Stone, Complex, Esquire, Pitchfork, and Complex.
QUARTERTHING features Rayvn Lenae, The RZA, The GZA among others, with production from longtime collaborator Knox Fortune, Smoko Ono, Thelonious Martin, Nez & Rio, DJ Khalil and more.
Executive production has been done by Nate Fox, Nico Segal and Peter Cottontale.
The album features new single ‘Elastic’ which follows the Nez & Rio-produced ‘Bag Talk’ as the first track and video from the project.

Alongside his solo music, Purp has released music as part of rap duo Leather Corduroys within the SaveMoney collective alongside fellow members Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Towkio, and Kami.
He has supported Vic Mensa on tour in the US, done two headlining tours in Europe, and played festivals worldwide including Lollapalooza, FYF Fest, Pitchfork Music Festival, Sasquatch, and more.
