Last month MBW revealed that John Dyer, a staple of the UK independent community, had left Domino Records after 11 years with the label. Now we know why.
Chrysalis Records has hired Dyer as Managing Director. He will be charged with the day to day running, creative and strategic direction of the label.
Prior to his tenure at Domino, Dyer was GM of [PIAS] Recordings UK and also worked for Mute Records as their Marketing Manager.
Jeremy Lascelles, CEO Chrysalis Records said, “John’s track record speaks for itself. He has worked for many of the leading independent labels and in his recent spell at Domino, a company we much admire, he has worked with and helped to break some of the most exciting, important British bands of the last decade.
“He will be a huge asset here at Chrysalis Records and is an indication of the ambitions we have for the label.”
John Dyer, MD Chrysalis Records said, “It had to be a very special company and challenge for me to make a move and taking on the MD position at Chrysalis fulfills both those criteria.
“John’s track record speaks for itself.”

“It will be a privilege to take the label forward and work with the current and future artists.”
In further news, Dermot James has been appointed General Manager at Chrysalis.
James will be responsible for logistical, operational, administrative and royalties across all the portfolio including Chrysalis Records, Blue Raincoat Songs and Blue Raincoat Artists. Dermot has previously worked for Virgin Records, Warners and Global Talent Publishing.
Chrysalis Records was acquired from Warner Music Group in 2016 in a deal led by Blue Raincoat Music’s Jeremy Lascelles and Robin Millar CBE.
The agreement saw the co-founder and original owner of Chrysalis Chris Wright CBE, reunited with the legendary label as Non Executive Chairman.
It has since signed a label services partnership with Kobalt.
Artists on the roster include The Specials, Sinead O’Connor, The Waterboys, Ten Years After, Suzi Quatro, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Steve Harley, Debbie Harry, Fun Boy Three, Ultravox, Generation X, the Two Tone label and many more.Music Business Worldwide
