Downtown Music Publishing and Mom + Pop Music have announced a joint publishing venture.
Alongside Downtown Music Publishing’s traditional work with sync and licensing, this cooperative agreement includes a creative partnership with Mom + Pop’s A&R to help source new deals and develop both Mom + Pop artists and unsigned talent.
Unsigned artists need not be aligned with Mom + Pop’s label to be involved in the publishing venture.
The first publishing agreement under the new venture is with Neon Indian, the first under the new venture.
Neon Indian’s latest album, 2015’s ‘Vega Intl. Night School,” was released to critical acclaim from outlets such as Pitchfork, Fader, and Rolling Stone.
“We are big fans of the roster and team at Mom + Pop and admire the energy they put in to developing their artists,” says Downtown’s VP of Global A&R Jeremy Yohai.
“We are very excited to work together on the creative side and look forward to bringing our combined energy to the publishing world.”
“We are flattered and inspired to be working with Neon Indian in our venture with Downtown Music Publishing,” says Michael Goldstone, president of Mom + Pop. “He’s a gifted writer/artist and of great importance to all of us.
“Now, Mom+Pop is working with Downtown Music Publishing who are like-minded and open-minded. We’ve always had tremendous respect for the company and admired their work from afar, so we are thrilled to have formalized this.”
Founded in 2007, Downtown Music Publishing’s catalogue includes works by The Beatles, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, The Kinks, Randy Newman, Hans Zimmer, Bruce Springsteen, Mötley Crüe, One Direction, Hardwell, Santigold and Carla Bruni.
