Spotify has appointed a new General Manager for Europe.
Federica Tremolada, who has served as the company’s Managing Director in Southern and Eastern Europe since 2019, has been promoted to the role as of this month.
Milan, Italy-based Tremolada succeeds Michael Krause, who revealed on Monday (June 3) that he is leaving his position as Spotify’s GM for Europe after seven years.
Krause was formerly Vice President, Central/Eastern Europe at Deezer and CEO, EMEA. He joined Spotify in October 2017.
In a note published to LinkedIn on Monday morning, Krause wrote: “All good things come to an end, and now feels like the perfect time to pass the baton switch off a bit and take some care of my family & myself first and then start looking for new adventures later this year.”
The exec added that he had already started his handover internally “some time ago and will stay online for another month.”
Krause also revealed that Katarina Berg, Spotify’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), has taken an additional responsibility as General Manager Sweden.

I’m leaving Spotify soon and will be handing over the Baton
Yes it’s true and no clickbait. After 7 years managing various regions, including Europe (+ UK) for the last 3+ years. All good things come to an end, and now feels like the perfect time to pass the baton switch off a bit and take some care of my family & myself first and then start looking for new adventures later this year.
When I started we still had to convince artists to launch their music on our platform (even local rap-stars) and podcasts had just started with a first exclusive podcast test in Germany. Now I can proudly say that we are the no1 music AND podcast platform in Europe accounting for 38% of all subscribers at Spotify and being the largest region while still outgrowing the market year after year.
My time at Spotify included being part of the launch of the service in South Africa, MENA and Israel, as well as launching successfully and going offline again in Russia. It also meant managing my teams through a global pandemic and two wars in the region.
It feels like a whole working life and as if I had just started at the same time. 🤯
And all of the achievements were only possible with a great team and great partners – it’s been a great honor working with so many talented people throughout the years. But this is not a “goodbye and thank you post” yet, this will come later when I check out completely.
I’m also super happy that we could fill my role internally and promote my managing director for Southern and Eastern Europe Federica to take over the leadership for Europe. All the best for your extended remit Federica.
And to underline our strong focus on our home market Sweden, our global rockstar CHRO Katarina took on an additional responsibility as General Manager Sweden. What a dream-team to run the continent.
I already started my handover internally some time ago and will stay online for another month in case you want to reach out on my Spotify address or need any introductions.
Hope to speak to most of you before I transition out. 💚Music Business Worldwide
