The last artist to have a working relationship with Platoon, and then jointly sign to Interscope and Darkroom Records was… ah, you know who it was.
Platoon was the distributor for Billie Eilish before the multiple-Grammy-winning artist inked a deal with UMG’s Interscope and Darkroom’s Justin Lubliner.
Today (March 17), we learn that another hotly-tipped young artist is following a similar path.
British singer/songwriter Holly Humberstone is a long-time Platoon artist, having released her debut EP, Falling Asleep at the Wheel, through the Apple-owned company last year. (These days, Platoon is much more than a distributor, specializing in A&R development of artists, content creation and more besides.)
Now Humberstone, who recently inked a global publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group, has made the leap to Major Label Land, inking a new agreement for future records with Interscope and Darkroom in the US, and Universal‘s Polydor in the UK.
Humberstone is managed by Josh Sanger of London-based Closer Artists.
Tom March, co-President of Polydor, said: “I fell in love with Holly’s music and the incredible world she creates for it from the first moment I heard her. She’s a creative tour de force and we’re so excited to be working with her and her brilliant team.”
Fellow Polydor co-president Ben Mortimer added: “Holly is a once in a lifetime artist. She has already made great strides in establishing a long career for herself, and we at Polydor feel very lucky to now be able to help her with that journey.”
Darkroom CEO Justin Lubliner said: “Holly is an incredible artist with such unique talent. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside her and her awesome manager Josh Sanger to help amplify her creative vision. We love her music and we can’t wait to hit the ground running!”
And Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman and CEO John Janick said: “Holly has a singular voice and distinctive aesthetic which is why she is already building a passionate fanbase around the world. We are so excited to welcome her into the IGA family.”
Falling Asleep At The Wheel has already attracted more than 50 million streams.
Humberstone was recently named as the runner-up of the BBC Sound Of… 2021 list.
