French audio technology company Ircam Amplify has introduced a new tool aimed at identifying music created using artificial intelligence.
The tool called AI-Generated Detector is targeted towards record labels, publishers, rights organizations, distributors, and music streaming platforms. Ircam Amplify says that it can scan up to 5,000 music tracks in under a minute with an accuracy rate of 98.5%.
That is slightly higher than Believe’s new software called AI Radar, launched in November 2023, which Believe says can detect AI-made music with a 98% accuracy rate. In September 2023, TikTok said it was working on an automatic AI content detection tool as it launched a new protocol to label AI-generated content on its platform.
“Generative AI is reshaping the creative landscape, especially in the music sector, where everyone can create music using AI tools. This is, quite rightfully, a concern for all those who are involved in the creation, distribution and revenue-sharing of music,” said Nathalie Birocheau, CEO of Ircam Amplify.

Ircam Amplify, which provides audio analysis and editing solutions, positions its AI-Generated Detector as a tool to help stakeholders in the music industry. This launch comes amid a surge in AI-generated music, with an estimated 170 million tracks created using AI in 2023 alone and uploaded to music streaming platforms, such as Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music, according to Ircam Amplify.
Ircam Amplify, a branch of French audio research lab IRCAM-Centre Pompidou, says it developed a new AI tagging system for the detector to help players in the music industry identify “artificial” music files in an automated manner.
“Our AI-Generated Detector is a game changer. It will provide transparency where there was opacity. It will give a strategic advantage to the users of the detector and help them make informed decisions about music content. This is a much needed development for the market and we are thrilled to be at the forefront of this new technological development,” said Birocheau.

The launch of the tool comes after the rollout of Ircam Amplify’s flagship product, Stereo to Spatial, last year. It provides a “seamless and affordable spatialization process” for record labels and digital distributors. These new tools expand the company’s offerings, which already include Quality Check, a feature that assesses digital audio tracks’ compliance with hi-res formats.
The company also offers a vocal extractor tool called Vocal Separator, a Loop Extractor, Music Tagger, and AI Re-editor, which generates shortened versions of any track, and Infringement Detector, which identifies copyright infringement in tracks.
Romain Simiand, Chief Product Officer at Ircam Amplify, said: “Leveraging our Music Information Retrieval (MIR) and audio AI expertise, we trained a dedicated algorithm through a deep neural network on both humanly created and publicly available AI-generated music datasets. The detection training proved so specific to each model that we were able to state which one has been used to generate the tracks.”
The company will showcase AI-Generated Detector at the upcoming Music Biz conference in Nashville from May 13 to 16.
