Spotify has revealed a slate of updates to its Premium Family plan, including upgraded Parental Controls, a personalized playlist and a new Family Hub to manage account settings.
The upgraded plan is available now in Ireland and will be rolling out to all markets with Premium Family this fall.
The timing of the upgrade is interesting of course, because it follows last week’s news that the streaming company is planning to raise the price of its family subscription plan by 13% in Scandinavia – which begs the question, is Spotify priming its family plan for a price rise or are the new features just an added bonus?
The new features include Parental Controls, which Spotify says is “a long-requested feature on Community boards” and the Family Mix, a regularly updated personalized playlist of songs for all six account users.
Family Mix also lets you control who is in each session to “optimize your family’s favourite shared listening moments”.
In addition, Spotify is adding a Family Hub, where you can manage settings, including adding or removing family members, keeping your home address up to date, and adjusting parental controls.
Spotify says that its Premium Family subscription “has seen incredible growth” since launch in 2014.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve the Spotify Premium experience, and the upgraded Premium Family plan brings new features to how families enjoy listening to music and podcasts they love.”

“At a time where parents are trying to reduce screen time for both themselves and their family, we’re creating more ways for families to bond over music together, while still celebrating individual tastes and giving parents more control if they want it.”Music Business Worldwide
