India-based JioSaavn, which claims to be “the largest streaming service for South Asian music and audio entertainment”, is launching a suite of new User Interface and User Experience updates.
Several new design and functionality updates have been rolled out starting today (June 1), including a new homepage with “easy access” to Podcasts and the company’s ringtone feature JioTunes.
Today’s list of updates follow the recent launch of JioSaavn Pro Rewards, which according to JioSaavn, was “designed to further augment significant JioSaavn subscriber growth”.
The company claims to have grown its paying subscriber base 4x from early 2019 to now and states that its Pro Rewards program is partially responsible for the uptick in subscriptions.
Meanwhile, JioSaavn has also launched what it calls “Living Search” which features recommendations and “Shorties” – 15 second looping visuals that accompany select tracks.
Artists such as Eric Nam, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Alesso, Martin Garrix, Siddhu Moosewala, Bohemia, Zaeden, Armaan and Marshmello are among the first artists to appear in the “Shorties” launch.
JioSaavn states that “one of the most exciting updates” is the app’s AI functionality which will see vastly improved recommendations “by using a hybrid system of audio similarity and users’ listening patterns”.
“The platform is augmenting classical collaborative filtering approaches, such as Matrix Factorization and Word2Vec, with deep learning based models,” according to a press release.
A series of “more comprehensive product updates” will launch soon states JioSaavn, such as a new smartphone playback experience that includes music videos, while new Web and Desktop products will be more reflective of the smartphone experience.
“Discovery of new music continues to be an important component to streaming, so we wanted to prioritize a sharpened engine for relevant recommendations and track suggestions.”
